Throw Away Child Marriages
Some marriages are meant to be thrown away
In the United States, despite cries to protect children from
certain groups and particular books, child marriage remains
legal in 42 states. Many have age requirements, but six states
do not. From 2000 to 2018, an estimated 300,000 children were married off. Some were as young as ten.
As you can imagine, this can have devastating consequences
for these kids. Among these children, the rates of domestic
violence, substance abuse, mental health issues, STDs, and
pregnancy complications increased. Their future outcomes
are further limited by increased school dropout rates, which can make it difficult to get a job, in turn making them more dependent on the adult preying on them.
The Solution
We can bring awareness, raise money, and shine a light
on the ongoing problem of child marriages through a
 #throwawaychildmarriage campaign
